Technischer Bericht TCP-M6: Mobility Aware TCP Extensions For Mobile IPv6

چکیده
— To provide higher layer transparency, Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) hides mobility from transport layer such as TCP. However , it poses substantial impacts on TCP due to mobility issues, including packets loss, variation of packet size, and deviation of end-to-end transport delay, which may seriously degrade the TCP transport performance. This paper explores the impact of MIPv6 on TCP and proposes a scheme for MIPv6-aware TCP extensions by introducing a mobility-detection network layer module and a mobility-aware transport layer module. The changes are only made to the endpoints and preserve the end-to-end semantics of TCP. Different from most exiting works, which utilize either transport or network layer alone without much consideration on inter-layer collaboration, our approach uses MIPv6-related information to perform reactive TCP operations. Through performance simulations, our approach demonstrates that it can significantly improve TCP transport performance in MIPv6-based mobile computing environments, which outperforms prior approaches.

Technischer Bericht A Review of Mobility Support Paradigms for the Internet
With the development of mobile communication and Internet technology, there is a strong need to provide connectivity for roaming devices to communicate to other communication end point in the Internet at any time and anywhere. The key issue of this vision is how to support mobility in TCP/IP networks. In this paper, we review the TCP/IP protocol stack and analyze the problems associated with it...
متن کاملSimulation Study of TCP Performance Over Mobile IPV4 and Mobile IPV6
Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) is a protocol to deal with mobility for the next generation Internet (IPv6). However, the performance of MIPv6 has not yet been extensively investigated. Knowledge of how MIPv6 affects TCP performance, especially in comparison with MIPv4, can provide directions for further improvement. In this report, an intensive simulation study of TCP performance over MIPv4 and MIPv6 has ...
متن کاملMobile Ip Handover: a Comparative Survey of Seamless Handover Mechanisms
A seamless handover scheme with low latency and low packet loss is an important issue to maintain end-to-end TCP performance of mobile users. Several solutions have been proposed as extensions of Mobile IPv6 to improve the handover performance of mobility, each solution has its own advantages and disadvantages, and therefore, an standardized handover mechanism is not accepted yet. In this paper...
متن کاملRoute-Lifetime Assessment Based Routing (RABR) Protocol for Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks
Owing to the absence of any static support structure, Ad-hoc networks are prone to link failures. The ‘shortest path seeking’ routing protocols may not lead to stable routes. The consequent route failures that ensue, lead to the degradation of system throughput. This paper suggests a routing protocol wherein the route selection is done on the basis of an intelligent residual lifetime assessment...
متن کاملMobility Support in IPv6 Based on the VIP Mechanism
IPv6, the successor of current IP (IPv4), is now under development. Mobility support is one of the requirements for IPv6. This paper proposes a protocol for mobility support in IPv6. The proposed protocol is based on the mechanisms of Virtual Internet Protocol (VIP), which provides mobility in IPv4. Two Hop-by-Hop options are added to support mobility, one for user data and another for control....
